The story of the Messenger’s Christmas Land starts over 50 years ago with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Messenger Jr. and their 9 kids. With just a few lights and homemade animated scenes, word quickly spread about the unusual display for the public. The original location was at the Messenger’s home in Red Oaks, Baton Rouge and then relocated in 1992 to Plantation Estates, Denham Springs where Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Messenger III took over for the next 21 years. Now, going on 53 years, this family tradition can still be visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy Messenger off Prince Charles Street, Denham Springs. With lights everywhere, homemade animated scenes, a timeline, and even the north pole, the display continues to open every Christmas season to all of the public with no charge.

Many of you have asked us where to go to see the best Christmas lights in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas and we are working to create a list for you.  Sadly, some of our favorites have been affected by the flood and will not be able to put up their displays this year.  If you know of a light display not on this list, we want to know! I’m sure they would love to share their Christmas cheer with more of the community.
Please submit light displays via email or Facebook.

***A note from Willow Winter Wonderland:
“It’s with great sadness that we announce that our full display will not be open this year. As everyone is aware our community was devastated by the flooding this past summer. Although our home was spared our storage unit that houses our Christmas display was not as fortunate. We lost a majority of our display. Therefore we will not be opening our gates for the walk through. But we will still be decorating the front yard. Thanks to everyone who has come these past years.”
