Have a little nature lover at home? Nature Pioneers gives curious kids a chance to explore the great outdoors alongside BREC Conservation staff.
The morning combines short hikes, games, puppets, storytelling, snacks, arts and crafts and hands-on nature exploration. Each program explores a different theme through both indoor and outdoor activities.
Children must be registered and accompanied by an adult. Current BREC registration listings show Nature Pioneers as available.

Family Game Night

Roll the dice and shuffle the cards! BREC’s Family Game Night brings families together for an evening filled with games for a variety of ages and skill levels.
From classics like Connect Four to plenty of opportunities for a little friendly family competition, it’s an easy Friday-night activity to kick off the weekend.

Family-Hour Stargazing at LASM

You don’t have to wait until nighttime to go stargazing!
Head under the dome of LASM’s Irene W. Pennington Planetarium for an interactive introduction to the stars and constellations currently visible in Louisiana’s night sky, followed by a featured planetarium show for all ages.

Put on those safety glasses — it’s time to create some chemistry! 🥼🧪
BASF’s Kids’ Lab returns for its second weekend of the month, giving young scientists an opportunity to participate in a 45-minute hands-on chemistry workshop alongside an accompanying adult.
Each participant also receives a BASF tote bag containing a lab apron and safety glasses.
LASM currently lists Saturday’s Kids’ Lab programming from 11 AM–3:45 PM.

TBR Books & Tea is hosting a special Saturday storytime with Dolly Diamonds!
Families can enjoy a read-aloud and learn more about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and its mission to help put books into the hands of young children.
It’s also a great excuse to discover one of Baton Rouge’s independent bookstores. TBR Books & Tea has a dedicated children’s section and regularly hosts community events and storytimes.

BREC Art is hosting its first-ever Mini Art Fest Open House, giving families a chance to discover the art programs available this fall.
