Knock Knock! Boo’s There? – Halloween Family Fun

On Thursday, Oct. 27th I took my boys to the Knock Knock! Boo’s There? at Knock Knock Children’s Museum. It turned out to be fun Halloween-themed party and adventure for the whole family; and the decorations were on point, prefect for photo ops.

Each area had a different Halloween surprise; there was so much to do, we didn’t get to everything. The usual centers were also open and ready for the children to learn through play.

As we walked around the museum, there were treat stations so the kids could trick or treat as they made their way through activities. They gave out popits and other fun surprises.

Jack did a science experiment in the kitchen area while Jacob cooked up some delicious Halloween foods. The kitchen was decorated so festively and included Halloween menus.

In the Art Garden, the children decorated their very own pumpkins exactly how they wanted. It was hilarious and heart-warming.

The dry ice bubbles were definitely a highlight. Who doesn’t love bubbles?!? We spent a significant amount of time with the bubbles. I may, or may not have, popped a few of my own.

One of my absolute favorite areas was a fortune-telling station. Jack’s card reminded him that we can create our own happiness.

There was a pumpkin village area too but I’m not sure we’ve reached the independent scissor stage yet.

2022 Fifolet Halloween Parade

Join the return of the Halloween Parade! This year’s theme is “Fifolet’s Believe It or Not!” See the unbelievable come to life. Delight in the unusual and marvel at curiosities and oddities!

Krewes and local businesses or community organizations will showcase floats and costumes and throw candy to a crowd of over 35,000. Please dress in costume and bring non-perishable food donations for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank which will lead the parade.

2022 Halloween Festival Fifolet Arts Market

The Fifolet Arts Market is your one-stop shop for any and all things Halloween! Artists, crafters, and makers will set up tents alongside local non-profit organizations showcasing their creative community efforts. Live music, entertainment, costumed characters, and activities for kids throughout the day with food vendors and a beer tent make this the perfect place to hang out with family while waiting for the Halloween Parade to begin. Night Maze at Burden

The sun goes down, and the family fun cranks up at The Night Maze at Burden.

Grab your costumes, glow sticks, and flashlights and head on over to Night Maze. At this family-friendly Night Maze you can take a stroll through the corn maze, roast marshmallows by the bonfire, climb the hay mountain, go for a “swim” in the corn crib, play awesome games, and dance to live music! Bluebonnet Swamp Haunted Hikes

Bluebonnet Swamp’s Haunted Hikes are designed especially for younger children. This program is an alternative to the commercial haunted houses, which are geared more for teenagers and adults. Participants learn about snakes, insects, rats, and other “creepy critters” as they stop at educational stations along the trail. Track down costumed characters to receive “treasures” then trek through the Swamp Graveyard to our Education Building for Carnival Games and Spooky Storytime.

No scare tactics are used during this program, and participants are welcome to come in costume if they choose.

All participants should bring a flashlight, because this program runs at night. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Join us at Haunted Hikes this year for tons of fun!

Games and Entertainment start at 6 p.m.

Boo at the Zoo – Halloween Fun at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo

Calling all ghosts, goblins, little ghouls, and boys… on October 22, 23, 29, and 30, BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo is thrilled to host their most popular family event of the year – Boo at the Zoo! There will be traditional fall-themed photo opportunities & they’ll be providing fun and festive enrichments to their animal friends during the day.

This year at Boo at the Zoo

Regular Zoo admission applies, and admission is free for Friends of the Zoo Members. Admission gates open 9:30am – 4:00pm. Grounds close at 5 pm.
Halloween costumes are encouraged for ALL guests.
Treats are for children under the age of 12.
Traditional Fall & Halloween-themed structures & pumpkins will be sprinkled throughout the zoo for festive photo opportunities.
Holiday-themed enrichments will be provided to the Zoo’s animal friends throughout the day.
The Zoo will offer regular café service and additional vendor-sold refreshments in the Food Court.

Q: Is parking free?

A: Parking is free, but the parking lot often fills up for Boo at the Zoo. Deputies will assist in directing traffic but please “bear” with them. Cars will be permitted to enter as soon as spots become available. It’s best to get there early!

Q: Is your event scary?

A: Boo at the Zoo is a merry, not scary, Halloween event. The Hay Maze & other attractions are not scary and are suitable for young children.

Q: Can we bring our own snacks and beverages?

A: Outside snacks and beverages are not allowed inside the Zoo, but feel free to enjoy your Zoo favorites at the Flamingo Cafe, or try out the Food Court with everything from quesadillas and fried pickles to funnel cakes and smoothies!

Baton Rouge has many Halloween events for family-friendly fun leading up to the big night. Oct. 31st is just around the corner. One thing parents need to be aware of, especially parents who are new to Baton Rouge or new to having kids trick-or-treating, is that most areas have specific trick-or-treat hours. And in many communities, they only get two “official” hours to trick or treat.

Aside from the Baton Rouge area annual neighborhood trick-or-treating fun, there are many other trick-or-treat events happening around town. Family-friendly activities and experiences during the Halloween season can be hard to find, but we can assure you that a day at Boo at the Zoo will feature fun, education, and plenty of treats!

Haunted Hike:
For those who dare, come travel with BREC through the history of Forest Community Park through a guided hike, which will begin at dusk. Together we will unveil what this park is really made of and what creatures have lived and do live all around. If under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult to visit the haunted hike (Recommended for ages 10 and older). Be sure to disguise yourself in your best costume and at 7 p.m. we will gather to see you can impress the judges the best.

Swamp Haunted Hikes

Bluebonnet Swamp’s Haunted Hikes are designed especially for children, but all ages enjoy the spooktacular excitement of these Halloween-themed evenings. Event admission is through the education building where crafts and storytelling are just around the corner. Venture outside to find a way through
the Haunted Maze to get to the carnival games for more fun and prizes. Be on the lookout for our silly-swampy costumed characters as they have some great treasures to share! Inside the nature center the kooky-spooky adventures continue with the Animal Morgue, Wings of Hope Wildlife Sanctuary in the Bat Cave, the Creepy Cavern, and face-painting. Don’t be afraid of the dark! At night, head into the woods to get some treats and learn about snakes, insects, rats, and other “creepy critters” at educational stations along the Haunted Hike trail. Forest Community Dog Park Trick-or-Treat

This Fall Festival is sure to be fun for all ages. This event is from 4:00-6:00 PM and includes inflatables, pony rides, a petting zoo, cake walk, live music, and trunk or treat. Gather your family and friends, dress in favorite costumes, and come out to St. Luke’s for family fun! Our annual fall festival expands this year with the welcome addition of visual and performing arts from our school community! The festivities will begin in Witter Hall at 3:30 pm with the Spooktacular Concert & Art Show, featuring band, choir, and art students from our school. The fun continues with carnival games and trunk-or-treat in the church parking lot from 4 pm until 6 pm. Free and open to all!

To provide a safe and fun environment for kids and families Old South Baton Rouge Economic Redevelopment Group will be hosting “Trunk-or-Treat” Fest on Thursday, October 31st from 5pm – 8pm at The Dean Malik Center (Old American Legion Post) 1132 Eddie Robinson Sr. Drive. Kids and adults alike are encouraged to dress up and get into the spirit of things as they visit decorated car trunks and candy stations where community participants will be passing out treats. Best kid costumes, grown-up costumes, and car trunk will be awarded. Come out and enjoy music, snacks, and refreshments. The public is invited and admission is free.

The Baton Rouge Holloween events haves started and Swamp Haunted Hikes at BREC’s Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center is one of our favorites! Our kids had a great time last year, it’s an evening chock-full of activities and not-so-scary Halloween fun! Check out our short video from last year below!
