For 37 years, American Family Martial Arts has been helping Baton Rouge children grow stronger – not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well.
Families throughout the Capital Region have trusted American Family Martial Arts because their program goes beyond teaching kicks, punches, and self-defense. Their mission is to help students develop important life skills such as confidence, respect, perseverance, focus, self-discipline, and leadership – qualities that serve children both on and off the mat.
Recently, Baton Rouge Family Fun had the opportunity to visit the studio and learn more about their programs, summer camps, and the philosophy that has helped them serve local families for nearly four decades.
More Than Martial Arts

What sets American Family Martial Arts apart is its commitment to child development.
Their instructors are trained to work with children at different developmental stages, using age-appropriate teaching methods that help every child succeed at their own pace. Whether a child is naturally outgoing or needs help building confidence, the program is designed to meet students where they are and help them grow.
Parents often appreciate that martial arts classes provide more than physical activity. Students learn valuable skills such as:
• Respect for themselves and others
• Self-control and discipline
• Goal setting and perseverance
• Focus and concentration
• Confidence and leadership
• Healthy habits and physical fitness
These lessons often carry over into school, home life, and other activities, helping children develop skills that benefit them for years to come.
