Things to do in Baton Rouge

Out-of-this-World fun is right here at home when you join BRECs’ Highland Road Park Observatory for TODAY, May 18 from 3 – 11 p.m. The whole family can explore the world of astronomy and outer space with hands-on activities, interactive experiments, solar viewings, and evening sky tours!

Coming to Avondale/ NOLA Motorsports Park on June 1st 2024! Get the whole family out for a great family fun time!
Live Music for your entertainment featuring DJ BamBam Belonge!
Craft & Retail Vendor Booths with tons of cool and interesting stuff for sale!
Food Vendors with bunches of fantastic festival-style food to choose from!
Tethered Hot Air Balloon rides will be available for purchase during the event for $25 per person. While supplies last and weather dependent. Announcements on rides will be made at the event.
For the Grand Finale each night after dusk… about 9pm they will have the fantastic Hot Air Balloon Glow & Laser show where we will light up all the balloons in unison with crowd participatory “Count Downs”! This show incorporates Music and visually stunning coordinated burns by the Hot Air Balloons & Lasers.. creating a Glow!
Bring your blankets, chairs, and umbrellas and set up your own “perfect” viewing spot!
They will also have a Kids Zone with Games, Rides!

Civic Orchestra of Baton Rouge “Goes to the Movies

When: June 1st, 3 PM
Where: Main Library at Goodwood
Admission: FREE

Listen to music from some of your favorite films at the Main Library at Goodwood on Saturday at 3 p.m. as the Civic Orchestra of Baton Rouge “Goes to the Movies.” The concert is free and open to the public.

First Free Sunday 

When: Sunday, June 2nd

The first Sunday of every month is free admission day at many of Baton Rouge’s most popular attractions! Check out the exhibitions, collections, hands-on galleries, interactive performances, summer group programs, educators, tours, and inspiring shows.

Magnolia Mound will have a Juneteenth Special Program, Finding Your family’s Juneteenth Story June 2 / 2 p.m.

In honor of Juneteenth, Magnolia Mound offers a short, workshop on the basics of genealogy, specifically focusing on the African American experience in Louisiana. The study of one’s family helps connect a family’s story to the larger story of Louisiana and America. Come learn from a professional how to discover your family’s story.
Free self-guided tours will be offered on the first Sunday of each month. Occasional demonstrations will be offered.
