LSU Gameday Lactation Spaces for Nursing Moms

September 13, 2019 by Baton Rouge Family Fun

Breastfeeding or breast pumping in public can be challenging due to a lack of proper facilities (I’ve personally had to breast pump and breastfeed in public bathrooms, and it is no fun). While breastfeeding laws exist, some mothers may feel uncomfortable nursing in public. By providing mothers with a freestanding lactation suite, they are offering women a safe, private and clean environment to breastfeed or use their breast pump. LSU Gameday lactation spaces provide nursing mothers with a quiet, clean space to breastfeed or pump before going back out to enjoy the game. There are three lactation spaces conveniently located on LSU campus – It would be awesome to get a few INSIDE Tiger Stadium too! 😉

Dear Les Miles

September 25, 2016 by Guest Contributor

Dear Les Miles,

Can I call you Les? We have spent 12 years together, so I am just going to call you Les.

When I was 21 years old and enjoyed the tailgate culture of LSU more than one probably should, I knew nothing of football. Yet I would walk miles from my boyfriend’s fraternity house to tailgate after tailgate. I hydrated only with whiskey and beer. By the time the game came on I was the boisterous girl you either loved or hated. I never really paid much attention to the man calling the plays. I grew up, much to the relief of my mom. As I grew into the resemblance of an adult, I paid more attention to the game and less to the pre-game. At the helm of the game was you, a man named Les Miles.

les-miles

It was 2005 when you stepped up to the plate, Katrina had just passed through our coast. You came in, and we wanted greatness. We had gotten a taste of the crystal ball that is the NCAA championship, and we wanted more. We needed a win. You gave us a 11-2 season, and a Peach Bowl victory your first year.

You were a different kind of coach. Just when I thought you were going to let us down, you’d call a play that had us yelling at our screens. Sometimes in anger, sometimes in excitement, but always disbelief. “Why would he call that? HOW DID IT WORK?!” I loved you for this. I felt like your Mad Hatter side was my spirit animal. I longed to be the girl that could upset the dichotomy of this world like you upset the dichotomy of college football.

You ate a blade of grass. You clapped like my toddler when she sees Elmo. You were our coach. You were our Mad Hatter. You led the LSU Tigers to a 2007 National Championship three short seasons after you arrived, and then you stuck around. Tiger fans were in love. Were you who we had been waiting for?

I’ve grown to be a mom since I watched you eat your first blade of grass in Death Valley. For the past 12 years I imagine you’d be the kind of guy I’d want to invite to family dinner. I imagine you’d laugh loudly with us and discuss boudin and smoking pork with the men. I imagine your wife would sit down with us as the kids escaped to the backyard. You like beer right? If not my husband has Swamp Pop in the fridge. None the less, I have always and will always be fond of you. I have always imagined you a good man. That sentiment was supported when I met my husband.

les-miles-clap

My husband has told me the story of how you looked at him when he was flying you back and forth to Oklahoma and Baton Rouge and said, “I have kids at home, just get me home safe.”

As the college kid, that’s not something I could have appreciated, but as the mom writing this letter to you, I love you for it.

It’s easy to forget at the end of a tough loss, you’re just a man, a husband, a dad. So I write this letter as a parent myself and as a born and raised Louisianan.

Thank you for being kind.

Thank you for 114 Tiger wins.

Thank you for a national title.

Thank you for a 13-0 regular season.

Thank you for 5 top ten finishes.

Thank you for humbleness and class. A rarity in athletics.

Thank you for being unapologetically yourself.

Thank you for embracing Baton Rouge and making it home.

Thank you for 12 amazingly fun years as the Mad Hatter. Your unpredictability is my favorite quality in you.

Les, you showed Death Valley what it means to Love Purple and Live Gold on and off the football field.

I don’t know where your adventures will take you after this, but if they ever need a pause, our home is open. We will cook some food for the family. We will even garnish your plate with a little blade of grass.

Sincerely,

Whitney

NEW 2016 Tiger Stadium Policies – LSU Bag Giveaway

July 15, 2016 by Tiany Davis

Football season is just around the corner; we’re ready for tailgating with family and friends, Tiger Band marching down Victory Hill, LSU cheerleaders, the unparalleled energy of the crowd inside Tiger Stadium and of course singing the LSU Fight Song at the top of our lungs!

With college football season starting in a few months, some universities are tightening up security with a new clear bag rule. LSU has adopted the “GEAUX CLEAR!” bag policy to be implemented for the upcoming college football season. We’re hoping the new policy will speed up checkpoints and provide a safer environment for all fans.

2016 Tiger Stadium

NEW 2016 Tiger Stadium Policies

LSU Tiger Stadium Backpacks and Bags Policy:

GEAUX CLEAR! Only CLEAR tote bags smaller than 12″ x 6″ x 12″ will be allowed into Tiger Stadium and all other LSU Athletic venues. One-gallon clear plastic bags and/or small handheld clutch purses (approx. the size of a person’s hand) will also be allowed to enter. All backpacks regardless of size are prohibited and any bags larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″, clear or non-clear will be strictly prohibited. Exceptions will be made for approved medical needs and diaper bags (with baby). All bags will be subject to search and inspection.
Reason: Due to national and global events, security officials have deemed backpacks and large bags as heightened security threats. LSU Athletics is dedicated to enhancing fan safety and security measures and the use of clear bags is a recommended best practice throughout the industry.

LSU goes clear with new bag policy at Tiger Stadium for football games

Recommendation:

LSU recommends fans only bring what is absolutely necessary with you to LSU Athletics venues – phone, wallet, money, credit cards, car keys. Please leave all unnecessary items at home or in your vehicle. Backpacks and bags may not be stored at the gates or outside of the venue – any unattended bags will be confiscated and removed immediately (all items will be discarded). LSU Athletics is not responsible for the care or security of any items left unattended.

Cameras Policy:

Cameras are permitted in Tiger Stadium for both fans and working news media. All photos taken in Tiger Stadium must be for editorial or personal use only and may not be used for advertising, promotions or other trade purposes, or any other commercial or promotional endeavor, without the permission of LSU. Contact the LSU Office of Finance and Administrative Services at (225) 578-3386 with any questions.
Reason: The sale of images with current student-athletes is against NCAA rules and can risk the eligibility of LSU student-athletes. Additionally, any commercial use of photos of Tiger Stadium, campus landmarks or identifiable campus elements is prohibited without the prior written approval of the University.

Thankfully, we have a few stylish options to take the place of our bags on game day. The two clear totes can be found at collegefootballstore.com and the envelope purse can be found at sportsunlimitedinc.com. Lucky for three LSU fans, we are giving away all three purses!
