Cultivating an appreciation of music in our children is so important. Playing a musical instrument can enhance and develop math skills, language, coordination, social skills and improvements in spatial-temporal reasoning. Music is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our children and summer is the perfect time of year to nurture a love of music and provide kids with a fun and educational musical experience with Piano Pathways Summer Camp.
Piano Lessons:
I was recently introduced to what seems to be the perfect piano learning style, Piano Pathways. Piano Pathways aims to make playing the piano enjoyable and places focus on the journey of learning.
Learning is indeed a journey, one that lasts a lifetime.
Piano Pathways is owned by Rebecca C. Bellelo, Ph.D. The studio was created with the idea that every person is musical, and music is for every person. Piano Pathways offers a variety of classes and programs for students of all ages {yes, adults too} and skill levels – private lessons, group classes, and recreational music making classes.
Along with the students’ weekly lessons and classes, events are hosted throughout the year for the Baton Rouge community, such as themed recitals, piano parties, and other social gatherings, so that every student is celebrated for his accomplishments and progress at the piano.
**** Piano Pathways also offers lessons during the day for individual or group lessons, making it convenient for homeschool families.
Piano Pathways Summer Camp:
Piano Pathways offers camps for students of all ages and interests: every student will have a fun, first experience at the piano with piano camps for beginner kids & teens! Piano Pathways‘ week-long piano camps were created to expose kids to playing the piano in a positive, group-class environment. The camps are Monday-Friday and end with a fun Celebration Day. If your child has ever asked about piano lessons or shows interest in creating music at home, these camps are the perfect way to introduce children & teens to the piano. Children are guaranteed to have fun and learn to play the piano with this successful, first approach!
The camps are grouped by children ages: 7-10 and 11 and above, unfortunately, the camp for ages 6-7 is full. Piano camps are held in Piano Pathways piano lab, where every child is at his or her own instrument.
Students play along to background accompaniments with every piece, allowing the campers to feel as though they are playing with a live band. If your family does not have a piano at home, that’s ok! Anyone interested in learning to play piano is still encouraged to attend the camp, with or without a piano at home. Students can still listen to and sing or dance with the music they are sent home with—it’s that much fun!
Each day is a blend of piano playing, camp activities, games, and snack time. Many games and reinforcement activities are played throughout the week, such as “The Amazing Race,” “Bang,” and a scavenger hunt. By the end of the week, your child will understand keyboard-playing and music-reading basics such as rhythm reading, limited reading on the music staff, and playing many songs hands together.
There are limited openings for the following camp weeks: June 16-20 (ages 7-10), July 7-11 (ages 11 and up), July 14-18 (ages 7-10), and July 21-25 (ages 7-10).
