For the 42nd year, the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine is opening its doors to the public for a fun and educational Open House event on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free event is an excellent opportunity for the entire family to explore the world of veterinary medicine and animal health care, featuring exciting exhibits and interactive demonstrations.
Visitors can enjoy a petting zoo, a teddy bear repair station where children can have their stuffed animals “sutured,” and various animal demonstrations. The event will also feature raptors, which will be out from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. (with a rest period from 11 a.m. to noon). In addition, the Baton Rouge Police Department K-9 Unit, BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo, the LSU Museum of Natural Science, Companion Animal Alliance, Magic Happens Rabbit Rescue, and the Baton Rouge Kennel Club will participate in the event.
This Open House offers a great way to learn about the latest developments in veterinary medicine, animal welfare, and biomedical research. LSU Vet Med students, faculty, staff, and local animal and health organizations will provide a wealth of information throughout the day. It’s a fantastic way for families to engage with the field of veterinary science in a hands-on and fun environment.
Parking is available across the street from the LSU Vet Med campus, but please note that parking in the lot adjacent to the Stephenson Pet Clinic is reserved for hospital clients.
Sponsors for the event include Cat Care Center of Baton Rouge, Acadian Ambulance, and Campus Federal Credit Union.
