What’s Happening at BREC in November – Events and Activities

What’s Happening at BREC in November

MOUNTAIN BIKE MONDAY

Perkins Road Extreme Sports Park

This is a special event held on the first Monday of every month. This time is reserved exclusively for those riding mountain bikes. This pulls the mountain bike community together to ride something other than just trails. Riders must have a mask on when within 6 feet of another person. This event will be limited to 25 individuals on the track at a time.
Bike rentals $4, Helmet rentals $2.

North Sherwood Community Park

Join us for this FREE exciting senior biking program. We offer seniors a chance to maintain their fitness, lift their spirits and enjoy a social experience with others as they ride special designed cruisers or three-wheeled trike bikes, in our community parks and trail ways. Tired of the same ol’ paint and drink? Check out BREC’s new adult-only art classes designed to encourage and inspire creativity while painting the town rose’. Using the Zoom platform, join professional artist and instructor, Anita Lejeune, as she walks you through a step by step painting with others in a classroom atmosphere, all in the safety of your own home.

BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo

Run like a cheetah to our 15th annual Zoo Run Run 2-Mile Race and ½ Mile Kids’ Fun Run! At the run, enjoy the scenery as you scamper, trot or gallop your way through BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo. All proceeds from the race support your Baton Rouge Zoo and international cheetah conservation efforts. There will be refreshments after the race. NEW THIS YEAR: Every Participant Receives a Medal!

REVIVE YOUR MIND HIKE

Frenchtown Road Conservation Area

Forest bathing, Nature Rx, Ecotherapy…it’s been called many things but the message is the same, NATURE is good for you! If life has you spinning and you feel out of balance this is the hike for you. We will be using time in nature to slow down and take a breakthrough mindful, purposeful observation. We will be hiking off the beaten path at one of BREC’s Conservation Areas using the outdoors as a window to relaxation and a free mind. Join us to get a well-deserved dose of nature at its finest. This program is geared towards adults, but children 13 and older are welcome to attend.

Join us for this beginners painting class that will walk participants through the steps to paint a Louisiana themed picture or landscape.

MOVIE IN THE PARK

Lovett Road Park

Bring a picnic and join BREC for a family movie in the park under the stars. Limited seating will be marked off and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Popcorn and water will be available for participants. This event is free and open to all ages.

RECTIME

Church Street Park

Bring your kids out and join us for some quality RecTime! BREC staff will be on-site to play games, create crafts, watch a movie and eat snacks (provided by BREC). Masks are required and all activities will follow social distancing procedures.

VIRTUAL SUNSHINE SOCIAL: FALL FESTIVAL

We are excited to host a virtual prom for teens (age 16+) and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Get dressed up or come as you are! Join us for music and dancing from your home.

BIRDS AND BEYOND BIRDING PADDLE

Bayou Fountain from Highland Road Community Park Boat Launch

BREC Conservation and Outdoor Adventure are joining forces to offer you a great birding adventure! Join BREC naturalists and local bird experts on a journey to see all that our local waterways have to offer! You will get the full safari experience by kayak where you can view our parish’s different habitats and wildlife. Birds will be the focus, but no creature is off limits as we explore the food chain that supports local bird communities. Participants are expected to have basic paddling skills. This event is weather dependent, and registration is limited to kayak availability.

HOOPER HUSTLE

Hooper Road Park

Are you looking to test your fitness and mountain bike handling skills? Then join us for this year’s Hooper Hustle. Racers will navigate a 5-mile race loop through the winding single track trails of the Hooper road park trail systems along the Comite River. Racers in the beginner category will complete one lap. Racers in the advanced category will complete three laps. Prices will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each category.

BREC provides youngsters 14 and under an opportunity to participate in an exciting, free, football competition. BREC maximum count for registration will be 20 children per division for this event. Patrons will also need to supply their own football for this event.
