Orkin Summer Scientist Bug Catching Kit Giveaway

Summer is almost here! That means picnics, baseball games, barbecues and all the fun of enjoying the great outdoors with your family. There’s one thing no one likes about being outdoors, though: mosquitoes! They not only are a nuisance, but they also pose potentially serious health risks, especially here in Louisiana!

Mosquitoes can fly an estimated one to one and a half miles per hour. Some species remain close to their breeding site, while many others fly up to ten miles or more in search of food. To treat mosquito bites, you should wash them with mild soap and water. Try to avoid scratching the bite area, even though it itches. Some anti-itch medicines such as Calamine lotion or over-the-counter cortisone creams may relieve the itching. Typically, you do not need to seek medical attention (unless you feel dizzy or nauseated, which may indicate a severe allergic reaction to the bite). – http://www.buzzoffmosquitolouisiana.com

  1. I have two boys and I know they would love this. Heck, the entire family would love this! Everything from collecting the bugs to watching them and setting them free! I think the glow in the dark crawlers would be fun!

  2. I missed 2 on the quiz so I did learn something new. I really thought mosquito were less active between dusk and dawn! Nice giveaway and very informative post to help get us ready for summer. We are already experiencing mosquitoes here in the south.

  3. My kids would love this bug catching kit. I don’t know what it is about bugs and kids, but it seems like they’re magnets for each other. If my kids end up with this, I’ll be making sure I keep my distance. Bugs and I don’t mix. LOL

  4. My girls would love this kit, especially the bug catching craft kit. By the way, I definitely did not know that mosquitos prefer adults over kids.

  5. Wow! This is so cute, if you can say collecting bugs is cute, but I know some young kids who would love this. Also, it get the kids outside instead of being in the house.

  6. My husband would absolutely love this kit because mosquitoes seem to love him and he loves to be outdoors. I had no idea that mosquitoes like adults more than children. This is a great giveaway that anyone could benefit from using this summer.

  7. What a nice giveaway! I didn’t experienced this when I was a kid so this would be nice that the new generation will get some bugs and learn from them. This is going to be a fun activity!

  8. that app sounds pretty sweet! my daughter has bad reactions to bug bites, so we need to be prepared for sure this summer. Thanks for the fun giveaway.

  9. What great information. Some of my kids have bad allergic reactions when they get bit so we have to be careful outside during the summer. And what a fun giveaway. I am not a huge bug fan but my kids would think this is so much fun.

This would be so awesome for the summer! We learned some great things about mosquitos at LSU’s AG Magic this year. My son says that only the females will drink blood . Also neat to see the minnows eat the mosquito larvae!
